breeze
and stars

personal project

This conceptual design was built for the rural deserts of Dubai. Growing up in Dubai during his teenage years, Sujon Ishaq noted the amount of light pollution in Dubai's urban landscape that obscured the view of stars in the night sky. Hence this projects aims to create a public space away from the city lights to allow for stargazing. During the day time, the acoustics of the space would allow it to be used compellingly for musical performances. This design also takes into account the extremely hot climates of Dubai and allows for convection cooling through shaded pools of water throughout the space that cool the incoming hot air. The gaps in the ceiling above allow for the hot air to exit, creating a cool oasis from the desert heat.

Formally, this is signaled through the facade, which is an abstraction of a sea shell, which are a nostalgic symbol of his time in Dubai heavily spent on the beach.
